Just arrived at The Garage! 1936 Riley 15/6 Kestrel - rare model One of the most sought-after Riley saloons, the 6-cylinder Kestrel models have a special appeal to enthusiasts. The destruction of so many saloons over the years by special builders has considerably lessened the number of survivors, and, today, less than a dozen original Kestrel 6-cylinder models are believed to exist. The Kestrel design was particularly advanced when it was first seen in late 1932. The nascent years of motor car streamlining produced a variety of styles, but the Kestrel was not only one of the very first, it was also one of the most stylish and attractive, in keeping with prevailing ‘Art Deco’ trends in the automotive world.  The 15/6 engine had a capacity of 1726cc and gave a worthwhile increase of power compared to the previous 12/6 and 14/6 units the latter of which first appeared in 1929.   The 15/6 Kestrel made its first appearance in 1935, originally with ‘4 light’ coachwork before being replaced by the particularly elegant ‘6 light’ variant the following year. This example was supplied new by Jordan’s of Godalming, Surrey and their plaque is affixed to the bulkhead. The original Surrey registration number remains on the car. There is a spin-on oil filter conversion and numerous bills show considerable amounts have been spent on maintaining the car over the years. A most genuine example of this desirable sporting saloon, it shows a pleasing patina, including an original light tan leather interior. The engine pulls strongly with the smoothness expected from six cylinders and the preselector transmission provides effortless changes. A quality motor car possessed of considerable character and presence.
