#DryNeedling #Electrostim #TriggerPoints https://bodymindwellnesscenter.com/dr... I like to add electrical stimulation to my dry needling to release trigger points and stimulate motor points in strong type athletic individuals with very tight muscles and fascia. Trigger points, according to Janet Travel, are found in fascia and even ligaments, as well as muscles. Practitioners with strong palpatory skills, especially people with long experience doing body work, will be able to find trigger points in the fascia and ligaments. These trigger points are not in the images Travel-Simons books, as she focuses on the the muscular trigger points. As the IT band is such a workhorse, I like to palpate and release any trigger points I find, whether they are in the IT band itself, as some are, or in the Vastus Lateralis muscle that is directly underneath it. The way to tell if the TP is in the IT band itself, versus the underlying muscle, is whether you obtain a fasciculation response with a very shallow needle insertion that is into the IT band itself, rather than the underlying musculature. One can also elicit a twitch response when needling fascia just under the skin, such as the sheath of fascia that covers the lumbosacral area.
