A new, non-partisan effort aims to build trust and transparency in Michigan's upcoming midterm elections by keeping an eye on the process, and it involves two organizations tied to former presidents. The foundations of two ex-rivals, Presidents Gerald R. Ford and Jimmy Carter, are joining forces. "We buck the trend to be so hyper-partisan, which is what's going on these days," Gleaves Whitney, executive director of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, said. The non-partisan initiative will train and support volunteers across the state to assess and report whether election laws and procedures are consistently and accurately followed, from testing voting machines to certifying results.
