Magnificent trumpeter, composer & arranger Neil Doherty brings his powerful group for their debut performance at the SMJC. Horns Up Front is a 7 piece funk, jazz & soul collective. ​The band came about in Summer 2019 after Neil Doherty wrote some original tunes and original arrangements for 3 horns and rhythm section. He then got straight on the phone asking some of his favourite musicians he’d met working on the UK funk/jazz/pop/soul scene. The music is heavily influenced by bands and artists such as Lettuce, Tower Of Power, London Horns, Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker to name a few. The band performs original tunes and arrangements of music by the likes of Charlie Hunter, The Yellowjackets and Lettuce.
