Robert SILKY HARGRAVES was both a saxophonist and singer who recorded for Mike Hanks on his D-Town and Wheelsville labels. He first made his debut 45 'Hurt By Love' with 'Go On Girl' in 1965. His second single, 'Love, Let's Try It Again with 'I'll Keep On Trying' was then released in 1966. Finally, he recorded 'Keep Loving Me (Like You Do)' with 'You're Too Good (To Me Baby)' for Dearborn Records -produced by Ed Kaplan and conducted by Stan Cleveland. This label was run by Frank Martin, Jerry Snyder and Chat (Chester J.) Kajeski and operated in Detroit - 13200 W Warren, Dearborn, from 1965-1970. The label mixed soul releases along with garage rock and polka. Silky played his sax and also added backing vocals on many recording sessions that Mike Terry couldn't make. It was said that he got the name 'Silky' from the ties he wore and the sound of his voice. 'Keep Loving Me' proved very popular on the Northern Soul scene in the heyday of places like Wigan Casino and Blackpool Mecca in the mid-70's. Consequently, instrumental versions of both A and B sides were reissued and pressed on the MSK (Martin, Snyder, Kajeski) label in 1975.
