I was up on the North Kent Coast the day before, trying a new luring spot. I waded out a short distance with an angler I had met the day before and began casting my lures within minutes we had a bass jump only a few feet from us then several more! 10 Bass jumped under our noses in 2hrs but could we hook one? NO! we couldn't buy a bite with the weed forcing us to stay on top with floating lures we had few choices on what to use. Alas the bass weren't having it but something is swimming in front of us tail up and it looks big! After a few min I see the dorsal fin. Its a Shark! Only about 8ld and I know which one it's a Smoothhound. So inspired by this I set my rod down and start lifting rocks, I know I might be out of luck on the peelers but surely there will be hardback crabs left after 20 mins work I have 10 reasonable size crab in the bag mostly hardbacks but some softies. With the sun shining, no wind and water calm and clear I left happy seeing so many fish and a shark, content I had the right bait to catch one. What a difference a day makes! Returned to North Kent with the wind howling from the south and buckets of rain falling from the sky! 'Should we just go home' I felt Like telling my mate. But hell we've driven here now and its only a bit of water right? Drenched through to bone as we walked down to the mark. We set up I put two rods up a cast one started to show my friend how to prepare a crab for bait and the familiar clicking sound starts. 'Oh No!' That was to quick to be a fish must be seaweed I thought I pick the rod up disappointed at the prospect of the seaweed making it unfishable all night! But this feels like a particularly lively bit of seaweed, I cant believe it as soon as the bait was in the water that shark must have smelt it instantly at just over 6ld great start. Less than 5 min later my mate shouts 'my lines moving' Not only is it a decent smoothound its his first double! weighed in at 10ld 5oz he was a happy man! 2 mins after that the huge bite and run you see in the video happened resulting in 2 fish for me 10ld 12oz and 6ld 5oz so four fish in the pool before we had finished filming number one! well the rest is history!
