But they have to be sublimation certified, like the ones in this video. But before we dive into the steps, let's talk about what types of items can be sublimated. Basically, sublimation uses heat to chemically change the surface of apparel and hard surface goods. But to do this it has to be 100% polyester and light colored. So to sublimate t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks and other items like this they need to be white or light colored and 100% polyester. We highly recommend sublimation certified apparel blanks though like Vapor Apparel. These are blanks that were specifically designed for sublimation and are able to withstand the high temperature needed for sublimation. How It Works: 1. Print your design on a piece of sublimation paper using a sublimation printer like the Sawgrass SG500 or SG1000. 2. Use a heat press pad, and insert it into the car flag's opening. This will raise up the flag so the seems are out of the way and will make sure the design doesn't sublimate through to the other side. 3. Place it on the blank flag and use heat tape to secure it into place. Press at 400 degrees for 40 seconds. Use a light pressure to ensure you don't get press lines. When time is up, carefully remove the transfer, flip it over and replicate the same steps to customize the other side. TIP: While these are the directions for the 2-ply sublimation flags the 1-ply works the same way except you can only sublimate one side. In this video we use the Hotronix Fusion Heat Press but we highly recommend the Galaxy Heat Press for sublimation. It's affordable and reliable.
