We don't ask you to watch or share our videos because we know that you all get involved in supporting the Seagulls however you can. But this video needs to be seen and it needs to be seen by as many people as possible. You all know that we work in some extremely difficult places. And our videos are often positive because we're bringing joy to children who are missing out. But right now we need to focus on the inhumanity of how refugees are being treated. The Syrian refugees in Lebanon have lived in tents and shacks for years. The lack of services and resources is appalling, and child labour is rife. But it gets worse. The govt is forcing people to destroy the meagre shelters they have, removing any services they have and blocking the work of NGOs. They're doing this to try to make their lives so difficult that they return to Syria. Try to get your head around that. A govt is trying to make the lives of refugees so unbearable that it seems preferable to return to Syria, a country that has been totally destroyed by eight years of conflict and brutality. This is appalling, but it's just one part of a global problem. Whether it's the camps in the US and Europe, poverty and the hostile environment in the UK, children's right to play, laughter and recreation is being destroyed. Children who grow up without these things do not become healthy and well-adjusted adults. We need to act because the price to pay down-the-line doesn't bear thinking about.
