We knew Brazilians like to party but we had no idea it was like this. We were shocked to be woken up in the middle of the night to celebrate Christmas. We were invited to spend a few days over Christmas at the amazing Eco Resort Paraguaçu with some Brazilian friends. We went to bed on Christmas eve thinking we would wake up in the morning and open gifts with our kids. Little did we know that Santa Clause would come bursting though the door in full costume at midnight. Beard and all. He told us to get up and get dressed because a feast was waiting. We got ready and went down to the party. When we arrived we saw a huge table full of delicious Brazilian food, people dressed to the nines and loud music playing. After the meal, the dancing began and lasted until long after we went to bed. No gifts were exchanged and there were no fancy decorations. I loved this! I loved how the focus of Christmas was on sharing a meal with family, spending time and having fun. Not on gifts and the material things money can buy. We totally enjoyed ourselves and loved this tradition. Next year we will be more prepared. In the United States Christmas is expensive, super commercial and over the top. It’s nice to have a break from that. Video 104 Thanks for joining the adventures of Our Brazilian Life!
