Translating the main theme song (片頭曲) "Universal Sentient Being" (普渡众生) from the Reincarnated Princess 1985 (观世音) into English. Original Cantonese song by Amy Chan (陳秀雯). This TVB series was made in 1985 and is a loose retelling of the story of how a Princess became the deity Guanyin (觀音), the Goddess of Mercy. In Hong Kong, the series is 34 episodes long. For international viewers the series was trimmed to 17 episodes. As a kid, I did not watch this series. I recently finished watching this series on YouTube as a subscriber wanted me to translate the main theme song. This series stars Angie Chiu (趙雅芝) as Guanyin (觀音) and Simon Yam (任達華) plays a noble who ends up becoming a king. Overall, I found the series enjoyable. But thankfully I watched the 17 episodes version and can't imagine how the full series could be 34 episodes. Angie Chiu is beautiful and kept me interested in the series. She had good chemistry with Simon Yam, who had a rare opportunity to play a heroic leading character. It is interesting that both of them featured in the Chor Lau Heung and the Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre Series. Angie featuring in the 1970's adaptations whilst Simon Yam featured in the 1980's adaptations. A final trivia note, Angie Chiu also played Guanyin in a cameo role in the Yang's Saga 1985 (杨家将) series. This song which I titled "Universal Sentient Being" was sung by the lovely Amy Chan. I decided to translate this song at the request of a subscriber. It took me a few listens to start liking the song. The translation was fun to do and it gave me the chance to watch an old TVB series that I've never seen before. So enjoy.
