In this video we discuss about methylene blue reduction test for milk. Large numbers of bacteria present in raw milk, especially Escherichia coli and Streptococcus lactis, are indicative of poor methods of production handling. MBRT is a rapid and an inexpensive way to evaluate the microbial quality of milk. Bacteria present in the milk utilize the oxygen, producing a reduced environment. In this test, methylene blue, which is colour sensitive to oxygen concentration is added to the milk. The indicator is blue in the oxidized state and white in the reduced condition. The speed of colour disappearance of methylene blue α number of bacteria present in the milk sample.
