Materials Needed: AR-15 cleaning kit (includes bore brush, cleaning rod, cleaning patches, and lubricant) Cleaning solvent Gun oil or lubricant Step 1: Safety Check Before beginning any cleaning or maintenance on your AR-15, it is essential to ensure that the firearm is unloaded and that there is no ammunition in the immediate vicinity. Step 2: Disassemble Your AR-15 Remove the upper and lower receivers, and separate the bolt carrier group from the upper receiver. Remove the charging handle and the buffer assembly from the lower receiver. Step 3: Clean the Barrel Attach the bore brush to the cleaning rod and apply cleaning solvent to the brush. Run the bore brush through the barrel several times to loosen any dirt, carbon buildup, or residue.
