In this episode, Alexandra signs up for a 60s Go-Go dance class with Martha and Cherry from London's 'Go-to dance troupe' The Meyer Dancers. Cherry says: "We've been running the Go-Go classes now for about a year… Even though this style is an old style, it's quite niche now. There is a lot of burlesque and cabaret around, but there's not really any sixties dancing. It's been quite popular and we've got a big space now to do it in." Alexandra says: "It's so glamorous… really good for making women feel empowered again… getting dressed up and coming out for a nice boogie." Cherry originally started The Meyer Dancers with her friend Treacle, and says: "We were studying at dance school together and we both had a huge passion for the sixties. We were going along to the specialist Mod nights. We decided that there was not really anyone doing the style so we decided to bring it back. We've been going for seven years now." Cherry, who is training to be a holistic health coach says: "I'm very much into all of that field… all the holistic stuff, like reflexology, iridology, healing the body naturally… it does all fit together and dancing is my passion. It's what I love to do so much, so hopefully I can help people with dancing too." Martha says: "It's such a lovely group of girls and it's such a sisterhood mentality, which is so nice – especially in cities like London which can feel quite big and isolating – to feel like you've got your girl gang." The girls have also hit the big screen with an appearance in the film 'Lost In London – Live' alongside Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, which was shot live and screened directly in cinemas in America. And they also appeared in a 70s drama by John Ridley who did '12 Years a Slave.' This video includes a demo dance class with The Meyer Dancers to The Clapping Song by Shirley Ellis, so why not follow along and try out the steps? The girls all choose their own costumes and very much into vintage fashion. They are also available to hire for parties and events.
