My 11th hand-picked collection of ads that were all broadcast in the UK back in the 80s and 90s - if that's the era you grew up in, I'm convinced there will be something here that means something to you. Things to look out for include unexpected celebrities (such as two Goodies and a Python), some nice animation and interesting special effects, and a really long Public Information Film about road-crossing. That tie-in between Walkers and Star Wars to coincide with The Phantom Menace tells quite a story - they were really pushing Jar Jar Binks as the main character everyone was going to love, weren't they? I wonder how much those "Tongue Toys" would be worth now. (We're further removed from that prequel trilogy now than we were then from Return of the Jedi, by the way.) On a slightly different note, I'm always tickled by NES ads back then ending with the pointer that it's only available at larger Boots stores, while the two Burger King ads - at 5:28 and 20:14 - are an object lesson in marketing the same product at two completely different demographics. The Pink Windmill challenge is on once again, and it's another that I suspect actually originates from the late 70s. Two for the price of one, though. (If you're a copyright holder and have any objections, please feel free to contact me. Alternatively, I haven't monetised the video, so you're welcome to do so, and that way everybody wins.)
