From 8 to 10 June 2023, over 150 representatives from more than 20 European countries gathered at the House of Music Hungary in Budapest for the 11th edition of the European Forum on Music (EFM). During this session, European networks dealing with music learning and music education, participation and access to music, addressed the question of what sustainability means to them, and how to sustain music in their respective areas of work; what are the burning questions and key challenges, and how to tackle these in order to have a sustainable future for higher music education, music education in school, music schools, at international youth music encounters or European and international singing exchanges. Speakers at the panel were Sonja Greiner (European Choral Association), Blasko Smilevski (Jeunesses Musicales International, JMI), Stefan Gies (Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen, AEC), Till Skoruppa (European Music School Union, EMU) and Isolde Malmberg (European Association for Music in Schools, EAS). The panel was moderated by IMC Secretary General Silja Fischer.
