Maximillian Rudd performs A Flor del Llanto by Abel Fleury

Argentinian guitarist and composer Abel Fleury (1903-1958) was born in the city of Dolores in Buenos Aires Province. It was his mother who scrimped and saved to purchase him a guitar, and she even taught him his first few music lessons from what little she knew. The young Abel had plenty of natural talent and before long he was hassling neighbours and friends for any tips and tricks he could get his hands on. His professional career was short but extremely successful - he toured Europe and South America performing concerts and accompanying singers and actors of the time. All the while, Fleury composed a rich number of solo guitar pieces in various Argentinian folk styles, including milongas, chamamés and zambas. They are typically short but beautiful in their simplicity and expression. Fleury died before his time from an illness he acquired upon returning from a tour, but leaves an important legacy for the Argentinian guitar which is well-celebrated by guitarists around the world.
