Connecting an Aviation Style Headset or any type of external microphone Electret or Dynamic Microphones to your Icom radio can be tricky but when you know how it is simple. Not everyone seems to get to the point with advice so we tackle some of the myths surrounding Icoms. Most radios are straightforward and you can connect a "normal" non powered mic. With Icom you need to muck around a little bit more. I proved it with some portable Hand held radios. My Aviation portable (Icom) needs powering to make the mic work, but an electret mic works fine. If i use the same headset in the Anytone 878 DMR radio wired in - nothing, simply because there is no voltage on the mic. The handy thing with the Bose A20 is it has bluetooth and it connects into the bluetooth of the radio audio and sounds pretty nice. Electret mics need somewhere between 5-13 volts. Typically with the Icom it is usually 8 volts. If you are using a Dynamic microphone you might want to consider a blocking capacitor something like a 10uF or a 600/600 ohm isolation transformer. If you have an old pilot or aviation style headset you can connect it directly to your icon if it is an electret condenser type microphone. The reverse is also true too if you want to hook up an aviation headset to a computer you will need to power the mic with maybe an external circuit and power. The simple way would be to use a dynamic mic insert on the boom, but the sound from the electret condenser can be pretty good over a livestream or game timecode 0:00 intro 01:00 Aviation Radios 01:36 Other Electret mics 02:27 Dynamic adapter box 03:07 DI Earth Box 04:22 Electret test on HF 04:47 Icom mic To pical series hosted by Glenn VK2HTV Thanks for watching! 73's ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🔴 Social Media: Twitter: / radiowavestv / radiowavestvlive Patreon: / radiowavestv -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- T Shirt: https://www.redbubble.com/i/t-shirt/R...
