Boost for tourism in Masai Mara Game Reserve as the first tourism university is launched. According to Dickson Kaelo of Kenya Wildlife Trust over the years we are facing crisis of climate change,unemployment and human wildlife conflicts prompting us to initiate community-based projects. He says that the only way for sustainability I'm conservation was through community saying 65 percent of wildlife are in conservancies while just eight percent are in protected parks Svein Wilhelmsen of Basecamp Explorer says that the youth unemployment was rampant due to mismatch on education and job market. He said the biodiversity will suffer is sustainable actions are not initiated. The college will link up with other universities globally to upgrade to degrees to meet international standards. Maurice Nabaala the college principal says the key mandate of the college is research and community service. He says the newly established college was working with Maasai Mara University in curriculum development and expertise. He says conservation without capacity building was unsustainable and that the establishment of the college will prioritise on community empowerment on conservation. On his part,Jackson Mpario the Chairman of the the Masai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association(MMWCA)called on land owners to avail their land for wildlife conservation. He also asked tourism operators to work with communities on land leases for prosperity. The MMWCA said that the community had entered Memorandum of Understanding with tourism players to support the college for sustainable conservation. He also appealed to well wishers to come out and offer scholarship to local students to study at the institution as well as to offer job opportunities to the college graduates.
