If Kandy felt like a storybook, the road to Nuwara Eliya felt like turning the page into a storm chapter. We swapped the bus for a taxi with our tuk tuk driver and quickly realised it was the right call. The journey out of Kandy revealed a countryside still bearing the scars of the recent cyclone. Riverbanks collapsed, roads carved open by landslides, entire hillsides reshaped in seconds. In one heartbreaking spot, a temple had been dragged into the river below. It was a stark reminder of how powerful nature can be, and how fragile livelihoods are in its path. As we climbed higher into the tea country, the landscape softened into rolling green waves. The plantations seemed less affected, stretching endlessly across the hills like a living patchwork quilt. We stopped at waterfalls along the way, flew the drone, stretched our legs, and even took an elevator down to start one of the walks. Four hours later, we arrived in Nuwara Eliya, often called “Little England”, and made our way to Lover's Leap Waterfall at 1850m above sea level. The weather? Moody. Fog rolling in, drizzle turning to downpours, and temperatures that made us question whether we’d accidentally flown back to the UK. Over the next couple of days we: – Explored Victoria Park and wandered past the historic old post office – Took the scenic (and slightly chaotic) route to Lake Gregory and Gregory Park – Joined a local family in a spontaneous TikTok dance – Tried local Kottu for dinner back at our homestay – Escaped the rain with editing sessions and afternoon tea But the real challenge came when we tackled a 25km stretch of the Pekoe Trail through the tea plantations. What we thought would be a manageable walk turned into a much longer adventure than expected. The rolling hills just kept rolling. Worth it though. The views were unreal, and we captured some incredible drone footage of the endless tea estates from above. From cyclone aftermath to misty mountain hikes, this episode has a bit of everything. Sri Lanka continues to surprise us at every turn. #SriLanka #NuwaraEliya #LittleEngland #TeaPlantations #PekoeTrail #LakeGregory #LoversLeap #TravelVlog #CouplesTravel #DroneFootage #HikingAdventure #SlowTravel #AsiaTravel #SriLankaTravel #KandyToNuwaraEliya
