In this video, Master T from Kicx Academy – Champions Character explains one of the most important ideas we teach children: The Maturity Continuum. As parents, most of us want the same things for our children — confidence, responsibility, and the ability to make good decisions as they grow up. But those qualities don’t appear automatically. Children develop them through guidance, practice, and the right environment. The Maturity Continuum helps explain the three stages every child moves through as they grow: Dependence → Independence → Interdependence At the beginning, children rely heavily on adults to guide their behaviour. As they grow, they begin learning how to manage themselves, take responsibility, and develop real confidence. Eventually, the goal is something even more powerful — becoming the kind of person who not only manages themselves well but also supports and encourages others. In the Champions Character programme at Kicx Academy in Churchdown, Gloucester, we use martial arts as a powerful way to teach these life skills. Through our teaching framework — The Champions Trifecta: Focus → Skill → Belief — children develop: • Self-discipline • Confidence • Emotional control • Leadership • Respect for others This journey reflects what many personal development experts call the path from Private Victory to Public Victory — learning to manage yourself first, and then learning how to positively influence the people around you.
