The Thai government’s plans to re-criminalise marijuana usage will now look at making exceptions for medical use and research. The country was the first Asian country to decriminalise cannabis back in 2022 but did so without any laws to regulate recreational use, prompting public concern over its abuse. Gloria Lai is the International Drug Policy Consortium’s Asia Regional Director. She tells The World’s Beverley O’Connor that "there really needs to be space for education, for explanation and for consultation amongst communities about the evidence and the science around cannabis".
