We needed a trailer for the houseboat we're building, so we bought a very tired travel trailer, and transformed it into a houseboat trailer. We currently boat with a 20' cuddy cabin on the Trent Severn Waterway. We've also trailered to the Rideau Canal, and The Thousand Islands region. Now that we're retired, we've decided that we want something bigger, and more comfortable, that will allow us to go farther, and stay out longer, and that's more "old person" friendly. We're building a 32' trailerable houseboat. The living space will all be on one level. The galley area will have a dinette on the port side, that can convert to a 48" double bed. On the starboard side, there will be about nine feet of countertop and cupboards, with a three burner propane range and a microwave above. Ahead of that will be a seven cubic foot refrigerator/freezer. Opposite that will be the head. It will have a 3 foot tub and shower, head, small vanity and linen cupboard. In the salon area there will be a couch that will convert to a 54" double bed for Lisa and me. The starboard side of the salon will have some closets and cupboards, and the helm. The boat will have a planing hull, and be powered by a 280 HP Volvo Penta Duo-Prop sterndrive, giving us plenty of power to get up and go when we want to make good time, or putt along at a leisurely pace, when we're not in a hurry. The boat will have electronic throttle and shift controls, and hydraulic steering. There will be a flybridge, as well as the lower helm. Both will have full instrumentation, bow thruster controls, trim tab controls, and Garmin chartplotters. Even though this boat is home-built, it will have the comfort, amenities, reliability, efficiency and performance of a modern new factory built home cruiser. All of the systems and components are brand new, quality items. This isn't a patched together compromise of DIY Facebook Marketplace finds. We plan to spend many years travelling the waterways of Canada and the United States, and want a comfortable boat we can count on through the good times, and the more challenging days! We plan to use the new boat in the areas we've already explored, as well as lots of new places, including The Erie Canal, Lake Champlain, Georgian Bay and the North Channel, and the Eastern shore of Lake Michigan. We probably will never do America's Great Loop, but we would like to explore some parts of it, such as some of the Mid West Rivers. Who knows, we may even travel down the Hudson River, and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, all the way to our place on the Gulf Coast of Florida! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...
