A hysteroscopy is an instrument that has a camera and it is used to look in your uterus to see if you have any abnormalities • Polyps • Fibroids • Locate an IUD • Diagnosis the cause for repeated miscarriages • Remove adhesions Carbon dioxide gas or saline can be used to distend the uterine cavity allowing your gynecologist to see the uterine fundus. An endometrial biopsy is used to collect a small amount of tissue sample from your endometrial or uterine lining. The endometrial biopsy will tell us if you have • An infection like endometritis • Uterine hyperplasia • Uterine cancer • Normal endometrial tissue Common risks of the procedure • Pain • Bleeding • Infection After the procedure You doctor may tell you to avoid tampons, douching or intercourse for several days to prevent infection. You have some vaginal bleeding and uterine cramping but these symptoms should resolve in 1-2 days. Call you doctor if you have a fever or if your pain is not improving after 24 hours.
