Degrassi High - Nobody’s Perfect - Season 1 Episode 6 - 12/5/89 Scott is waiting for Kathleen at his car upset set is late. He grabs her hair in a rage and tells her she deserves it. Kathleen apologies and says it won’t happen again but that he is hurting her. Scott apologies and says he did not mean to hurt her and he loves her. Kathleen says he loves him back. In class Mr. Walfish assigns a Shakespeare assignment to Luke/Kathleen and Joey/Caitlin. Kathleen learns she and Scott did not make the school play. Scott gifts Kathleen a necklace as an apology gift for abusing her. She accepts Scott’s apology even saying “she deserved it.” Patrick walks by Spike both wearing The Pogues shirts and he compliments her. Patrick asks her out but Spike is busy with Emma. Caitlin tries to link up with Joey for their assignment but when Joey suggests after school she cannot because she made plans with Claude. At lunch Kathleen tells Scott she wants to try out for a play at the community center however Scott mentally abuses her. He tells he does not want to see her embarrass herself and she is just not a good actress. Patrick tries again to go out with Spike this time after school and she agrees. After Mr. Walfish’s class Kathleen asks Luke when they will work on their Shakespeare assignment. In the distance Scott watches Kathleen talking and touching Luke’s shoulder. Luke and Kathleen agree to meet the next day after school. As Kathleen rounds the corner Scott grabs and slams her into the lockers. He confronts her about Luke and does not want her flirting with other guys as Kathleen begs him to stop. He starts to choke her as Melanie and Diana have now walked up watching the abuse. Kathleen lies and says they were just fooling around and she runs off scared. At home Kathleen receives a bouquet of red roses and calls Scott saying the flowers are beautiful. In class the next day Caitlin and Joey agree to work on their project after school. Luke and Kathleen also will meet up in the drama room after Luke is ready. Scott appears and tells Kathleen to come over for dinner. She agrees but lies to him about doing geography homework instead of meeting with Luke. She says it will only take a half an hour and Scott says he’ll meet her at the car in 30 minutes. Melanie and Diana walk up and confront Kathleen about Scott’s abusive behavior the previous day. She justifies his temper and jealousy saying nobody’s perfect. Kathleen says she deserved it for making him mad all the time. She says he needs her, she can change him and he loves her. Melanie rebuts saying he does not love you if he hurts you. Caitlin and Joey are rehearsing their Shakespeare assignment but Caitlin wants to talk. She wants to be friends with Joey. Joey wants to know what he did wrong for their relationship to end. She said it’s not him it’s her, that it’s over and it’s nobody’s fault. Joey walks away. Kathleen asks Mr. Walfish if her audition was bad and to her surprise he says no, he was impressed. The role went to an upperclassmen with seniority and she should continue pursing being an actress. She realizes Scott mentally abused her by lying about her audition. On their afterschool date Patrick and Christine are walking but she is standoffish, does not like to be touched and wants to pay for her own ice cream. Patrick’s says to pay for his too and Spike laughs letting her guard down. They both start over reintroducing themselves to each other. Scott is at his car checking the time and he walks into the school looking for Kathleen. He finds her and Luke in the drama room and Luke leaves seconds later. Scott says Kathleen lied to him. She tells him she can act and Mr. Walfish encouraged her to not give up. Scott is enraged, rips her necklace off, strikes her down and kicks her. Calling her useless and garbage as he leaves her on the floor crying. After school Kathleen is in her room as the phone rings but she will not answer. The next day Spike tells Liz she had a nice date with Patrick. Scott walks up to Kathleen who has bruises all over her face. He apologies again. Kathleen says he really hurt her but he argues that she lied to him. She says if you love me why do you hurt me? He says he does not mean it and can’t help it. Scott fixed her necklace and wants her to wear it again. This time she walks away from him as he says he”ll never hurt her again.
