"Mrs Whitehouse's platform style is professional, her oratory, Churchillian." Midweek's David Jessel spends a week in the company of Mary Whitehouse, the secretary of the National Viewers and Listeners Association - formerly known as the Clean-Up TV Campaign - a pressure group that campaigns against the broadcast of media content that it considers blasphemous, offensive or harmful, such as sex, violence, and profanity. Mrs Whitehouse is an outspoken critic of the BBC, particularly its comedy and drama output, and - having initially been the subject of much ridicule - she has now embraced her role as a moral crusader. She also feels that public opinion is now swaying her way, and finds herself "riding a wave of anti-permissiveness." Clip taken from Midweek, originally broadcast on BBC One, 26 October, 1972.
