Hi everyone, Today I'm celebrating 🙌🏼 teaching my first Tinctures class this past Saturday. And do you know what my first class of students wanted as a bonus? An ExtractCraft Turbo Demo. Well, I made one on Saturday night for my class and posted it in our private forum, but I knew I couldn't leave out my subscribers so here we go with another live demo 😁. Here are the steps to making your FECO/RSO: 1. Prepare: Freeze your 2 ounces of dried cannabis and 2 quarts of alcohol overnight. If using flowers, especially harder, denser buds, break them up gently with your fingers to allow the alcohol to fully saturate your plant material. Don't grind, it will allow much more chlorophyll into your wash that many find undesirable. If using trim material, it is usually chopped up and saturates well. 2. Combine & Strain: Combine your frozen cannabis and alcohol in a quart jar, give it a swirl and pop it back in your freezer for 5 mins. Use a straining lid to quickly pour the alcohol off of your cannabis into a bowl. Refill with another quart of frozen alcohol, swirl it, and pop it back in the freezer for 10 minutes. Repeat the straining procedure to quickly pour off the second wash of alcohol off the cannabis again. You may combine your 5 and 10 minutes washes or filter and process them separately, it's your choice. 3. Filter: Set up your vacuum filtration kit with the fast flow filter and using the Source's vacuum port, filter your wash the first time. Filter again through a slow flow filter OR pop it back into the freezer to "winterize" overnight, solidifying the lipids and fats in your wash AND THEN filter it again to remove those particulates more efficiently. If you are in a hurry, a minimum of 2 filtrations with at least coffee filters is recommended. A better process if you have time and desire would be do 3 filtrations with at least one winterization freeze in between and using the vacuum filtration system shown with a fast flow filter, then another fast flow filter or 2 fast flow filters doubled up, and then a slow flow filter as your final. Filtration processes can go on and on and are very subjective to one's goals. 4. Process: Fill your crucible with 300 ml or 10 oz of at least twice-filtered alcohol wash, screw the crucible into the Source machine, put on the lid, close the vacuum port knob and press the button. Run your wash one time in Regular or Turbo mode, then initiate a 2nd run, this one you will have to check in on. When your extract has reached the size of about a US silver dollar or quarter in the bottom of the crucible and has the fluidity and viscosity of light cooking oil, stop the machine and pour out your extract onto a mat, or into a jar or into a syringe for further processing or storage. 5. Continue processing your 300ml/10 oz batches in your Source until you have completed processing all your wash, it will be a total of 4 batches with 2 runs of The Source for each batch. Depending on the quality and potency of your starting plant material, the yield will vary. Typical results for flower will be about 3-5 grams of FECO/RSO per ounce of flowers used. Trims are about half as potent at flower and so one ounce of trim might yield 2-3 grams of FECO/RSO. Dry sift or Keif is a concentrate of cannabis and is twice as potent as flower and will yield about 6-10 grams per ounce, but does require a bit more attention to filtration. I truly hope this helps.
