(4 Feb 2026) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ++MUSIC CLEARED FOR USE++ ASSOCIATED PRESS Lafayette, Colorado – 5 January 2026 1. SOUNDBITE (English) Brittany Peterson, The Associated Press: "Curling is a super popular sport at the Olympics. It looks like it could be some casual thing that you do with friends, but it's a really tough sport, and I'm here to try it out." 2. Sean Stevinson, Co-owner, Rock Creek Curling, explaining how to get started UPSOUND: Keep your broom, put it on the ground, use it as a tripod. But we're going to take that gripper off your foot first, and I want you to feel what it's like on the ice. We tested it outside. Tell me how slick…yea, right? 3. Detail of Peterson’s shoes slipping on ice 4. Stevinson demonstrating stone throw preparation UPSOUND: So you're going have two objects in your hand. You got the stone that you're gonna let go of. So you don't want to grip it too tight yet. And the stabilizer, which is going to help keep your balance. 5. Stevinson demonstrating positioning UPSOUND: We're going do a little hip lift and you're going to push off with that right foot. 6. Peterson attempting push off UPSOUND: So lower those hips a little more. Good. 7. Stevinson coaching Peterson UPSOUND: This time I'm going to have you let it go just to see if you can hold yourself up, use that core. 8. Peterson attempting another push-off UPSOUND: Nice easy grip, let it go. Good. Nice, she's up. She's up! 9. Various of Stevinson coaching Peterson UPSOUND: Now we're gonna add some curl to it. Since it's curling, the rock doesn't go straight. I've got to give it a little rotation, either clockwise or counterclockwise, and I've gotta aim a little bit off-center, right? I'm going to turn it about 45 degrees and just give it a quarter turn as I let it go. 10. Stevinson demonstrating push-off with stone rotation UPSOUND: I’m just letting it go 11. Peterson exhaling 12. Peterson pushing off and falling. UPSOUND: Good, go. Good! Oh, she's got it. 13. Peterson attempting again UPSOUND: Good, go. Good! 14. Various of Stevinson sweeping a bit to help stone along. UPSOUND: Better! So it's got to clear that other line, right, so we need a little more speed still. 15. Peterson attempting again. UPSOUND: Good, good. 16. Tight of Stevinson sweeping ice near rock 17. Wide side angle of Stevinson sweeping UPSOUND: Haha! 18. Stevinson helping stone to the inside circle UPSOUND: Right on the button! Look at that! We made it! 19. Stevinson throws and Brittany attempts to sweep, Stevinson pushes stone a bit to help it along UPSOUND: Okay, sweep. Yep, all the way. Ah! Keep sweeping. Sweep hard! Sweep hard! Get me in the rings, go, go go. Hurry, hurry, hurry. Yep, keep going, keep gone, keep going. A little more, little more, a little more. I didn't throw it as hard as you did. UPSOUND: I touched it again! Okay, okay. Ah! UPSOUND: Good sweep! STORYLINE: Curling dates to the 1700s and was among the handful of sports at the first Winter Olympics in 1924. It didn’t return until the 1998 Games with both men’s and women’s competition. It has grown in popularity and size: Curling will be the first sport to open competition, two days before the opening ceremony for the Milan Cortina Games in February. Each round, for up to 10 rounds, teams have eight chances to slide the specialized 44-pound (20 kg) stones toward the tee. They can aim directly for the center, try to knock their opponents’ stones away or nudge their own stones closer to the target. Strategies include blocking and takeouts. =========================================================== Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
