This silent promo film, made for cinemas, showcases the stars of what was then the Victorian Football League (VFL) in the late 1920s or early 1930s. Despite the fedoras in the crowd, some things haven’t changed. Fans of what is now the Australian Football League (AFL) would recognise the agony of the ‘crack forward’ injuring themselves, the training sprints, and the roar for the scoring of a goal. The era is signalled by the hand-stitched emblems on the guernseys, the baggy shorts, and the complete absence of mullets – but the intensity on the spectators’ faces and the players' cheeky interactions with the camera feels as fresh as today. #AFL #aussierules #footy #football #australia #sport
