The Time Warner Cable All-Digital Conversion has started, and this means that people who are using the standard cable tier with analog will have to obtain digital adapters to continue to receive all channels. While I am for all-digital cable, I don't care too much for the fact that they are implementing this changeover in an encrypted manner. This means that all TVs and computers, regardless of the tuner being analog OR digital... will have to get a digital adapter. The general purpose of the adapter is to take in the digital signal and convert it to analog to be received by an analog TV. The adapter also does have an HDMI out connection, but it will still be in standard definition. What's annoying is that normally when your TV or computer has a digital tuner, you'd think that you would not have to get this adapter... WRONG. That means you will no longer be able to receive all cable channels using a TV tuner card, no matter the type. It would be nice if they would just move all the basic tier channels over to HD in CLEAR QAM, but NO, they wanna encrypt it. This is why the digital adapters must be 'activated' upon installation, This now means that the vast majority of the TV tuners on the market, even those digital ones, except for CableCARD tuners... are now useless for Time Warner. You MUST have a digital adapter, which is more useless than a doorstop when it comes to watching/recording TV on your Windows Media Center computer. WTG Time Warner. This means that if you were just getting by on the basic cable package and you used your computer to watch TV... in order to continue watching all channels, you'll now have to upgrade to a digital cable package for more $$$ a month, spend around $100-$250 on a CableCARD tuner, get a CableCARD and SDV adapter from TWC, and have to deal with the content protection restrictions of Microsoft's PlayReady, etc. Wonderful. Yes, HD Digital Cable is nice, but are all these things really necessary, especially for those who already spent a good bit of money on a nice ClearQAM TV tuner for their PC, or a TV with Digital QAM support??? This is ridiculous. Please respect me and other viewers by posting clean comments with no bad language or name-calling at someone.
