It’s time to wake up, Illinois! This is Shannon Adcock with Awake Illinois, a common sense grassroots organization that’s been boldly advocating for IL children and communities since 2021. So, in the wake of Governor Pritzker saying he’s going to get involved in school board races, we have some questions: Who is tracking the $500k he gave to candidates? Why is he against grassroots candidates who are maintaining nonpartisanship in these local elections? We wager it’s because he is worried that everyday people with diversity of thought will get elected. They will ask good questions about policy versus licking the boots of the Governor or special interests. That’s why he’s scared. And he should be. Our children aren’t your political pawns, Governor Pritzker. Statewide, we are supporting more than 70 candidates who are ready to serve their districts with integrity. Oh how the haters have come out in full force. It’s crazy that good candidates running for office are getting smeared by the very people who preach tolerance and inclusion. These outside groups are inserting their inflammatory rhetoric and animosity in what should be fair and clean elections. Well, here’s our message: Knock it off, bullies. Your intolerance and vitriol won’t work. Think of the message you’re sending to children when you show your hateful ways. Stop staging agitator events, stop with the hateful posts, and ridiculous internet trolling against good, everyday people running for office. Hate has no home here, right? The silver lining is that amazing candidates are taking the high road and putting their communities first. They welcome discussion, are accessible to their voters, and are talking about the issues that matter: academic excellence, literacy, transparency, and keeping taxes down. As it should be. So to you, the IL voters, I encourage you to tune out the noise of the bullies and vote smart in the upcoming election. Vote by mail, early, or on election day April 4, 2023.
