To design Scout patches (or badges) you need to know some basics. This video will help the Scout patch designer with all of the tools at their disposal. We all know that there are very boring patches out there. If the designer only knew the basics they could have created a much better patch. Knowing some of the available patch options is important to the overall design. Will the patch have a Merrowed Edge or a Hot Needle cut? How many thread colors are available? Can I do something different that's never been done before? What are some of the basic requirements of a Scout patch? These questions and many more are answered in this video. This video is also very helpful for patch collectors and knowing what to look for when collecting. Most patches/badges have certain requirements that need to be considered within the design. The sizing of the patch should also be considered. Patches that are meant to be worn as a dangle over the temporary space of the uniform. Patches that are meant to be sewn on in that space for longer periods. Some patches are larger than the temporary space can accommodate. These are meant only for display and are often referred to as annual patches. Types and features commonly found in today's patch where. ✔ Merrowed Edged ✔ Hot Needle ✔ Twill ✔ Full Embroidered ✔ Ghosting ✔ Looped ✔ Buttonhole ✔ Backings Designer, we'll just submit a drawing of what the patch should look like. The embroidery company will have their artists go over the drawing and send a proof drawing back. In that drawing, they will specify the colors of threads that are used to create the image. This drawing is also considering any of the features the designer wishes to have in the patch. Most of the time the minimal run is 200, any less than that and they become too expensive to be made. When designing always consider that the patch pricing will be based on a square or rectangle shape. Even though the surface area is not used, it will be a waste to the embroiderer and they charge for it. 📊 Poll (10/5/22): Scout patches (or badges) are fun to collect and trade.
