One of the most incredible moments in British History was when Guy Fawkes was captured inside the undercrofts and cellars of the Houses of Parliament. He was hours from igniting over 30 barrels of Gunpowder, which would have blow King James I, his government and Royal Family to kingdom come. Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot would have brought down the monarchy, and it would have caused huge devastation the like which has never been seen before in England. But the plot was ultimately foiled. Following his capture, Guy Fawkes was taken to the Tower of London where he was brutally tortured on the rack. Fawkes was tied to the torture device of the rack, and was in so much pain that he gave over the names of a number of the conspirators. Following this he was brought to trial along with many other of his fellow plotters, and all of the members of the Gunpowder Plot were sentenced to death.The plotters were all to be hanged, drawn and quartered. Guy Fawkes was brought to Old Palace Yard in front of his intended target, the Houses of Parliament for his execution. However Guy Fawkes' execution did not go well, and in his own defiant way he actually managed to escape the hangman's noose.
