I divided a bunch of orchids this summer, but realized half of my divisions didn’t have new growth eyes on the other side, so they sulked while I waited for them to push new growths. I remembered a tip a friend told me a few years back: you can cut the rhizome a few weeks before repotting. When you finally take the orchid out of the pot, it already has new leads forming on both sides. Brilliant if you ask me! I’ll definitely be doing this more often so I don’t set my Cattleyas back. You can also use this trick on a healthy Cattleya if you want it to push more new growths in general.
