It has been more than 25 years since God first promised Abraham that he would become the father of a multitude of descendants as numerous as the dust of the earth or the stars in the sky. Yet he and Sarah had remained childless all that time. The year before the events of this chapter God had come to tell Abraham that Sarah would soon bear the promised son. The time has finally arrived. God has visited Sarah and fulfilled His promise to her. Isaac is born, and in his birth we see a foreshadowing of the birth of the greatest Son of Abraham, Jesus Christ.
