Counterstopping as Youmu or Reimu is much harder than Marisa, due to the lesser speed and the damaging bombs, making them that much more unforgiving to play. This took me over 3 months to achieve, as well. The RNG expressed from the animal spirits can really mess with the routing of the game. Though most of the time it isn't a big issue, sometimes it can completely derail runs, forcing a reset, or a compromise to the run. Despite the mistakes in some of the areas (primarily, the hyper break at Linear Creature and the life-piece miss at Yachie), I managed to have a solid counterstop run. Once entering stage 6, my heartrate was off the roof for the entire stage's duration, especially on Linear Creature and Oni-Shaped Creature, as I had to survive those. The 4th non-spellcard attack is also extremely dangerous due to its random nature, and might be the most inconsistent part of the entire game. Though the score caps at 9,999,999,990, the real score still ticks on further in the background, but doesn't show due to a coding oversight. As such, patches were made so that it can be shown, but this is seen as controversial by most people, as this is tampering with the game's coding, and thus isn't approved upon. As such, depending on who you ask, a counterstop is either a world record that can be only tied and not beaten, or just a counterstop, where by usage of patches, can be compared with other counterstops to see which is best. If you're asking me, I would hold with the second statement strongly, but since the general consensus seems to side with the first statement, I won't further improve upon this run as a way of showing why equating all the World Record/Counterstop runs kills any form of competition or innovation. Hopefully at some point, it will become the new consensus, but until then, this is where the run will stand. The true-score best Youmu Otter counterstop so far is 10,176,856,510 by the player myon, having over 100 million more than my run's true score. I am looking forward in the future for reaching new Counterstops and potential World Records. These are exciting times.
