Exclusive: NYCHA responds to claims of unsafe elevators with detailed tour

Whether or not hundreds of thousands of New York City public housing residents and guests are safe when they ride the elevators in the sprawling housing system is at the center of an ongoing lawsuit against the New York City Housing Authority, or NYCHA. In a story exclusive to PIX11 News, the plaintiff in the case, Henrik Beausoleil, first claimed months ago that an electronic system, called the Remote Elevator Monitoring System, or REMS, wasn't being used or monitored properly by the housing authority. Now, NYCHA has responded by opening its elevator maintenance training facility to PIX11 News and by providing a detailed demonstration of how it uses REMS to troubleshoot, manage, and prevent problems.
