Drawing on Traces of Enayat, this discussion examines various approaches to engaging with the archive and confronting its absence. It explores how the lack of an archive can itself reshape narrative—altering our positionality and expanding the possibilities for telling stories that resist the flattening of the past. Featuring: Iman Mersal, PhD Iman Mersal is an Egyptian poet, essayist, translator, and Professor at the University of Alberta. She is the author of five poetry collections and two nonfiction books, including the award-winning Traces of Enayat. Her work appears widely in English, and she was a 2024–25 Cullman Center Fellow at the NYPL.
