Not all of us can be daredevil off road motorbike racers though, so that's where racing games come in. And this game, Baja Motocross, is definitely one of the better games out there. So let's have a look at it, shall we? At first, the game looks like any other standard racing game. While it is pretty standard, it does have a few unique points to it that make it stand out above the competition. First off, the game looks really snazzy. It's really pretty, and the 3D graphics are very nicely done. You won't get any static non-moving avatars here, as you move along the track, your racer will shift and move his body along with whatever you're doing. Take a sharp turn? He'll lean the appropriate direction to balance the movement. Go slightly off balance? His leg will shift out to keep steady. What's more, is that when doing tricks (which are essential to the appeal of the game) your avatar will get up and do the tricks himself, making for some rather impressive-looking displays. Be careful though, while doing these tricks, you could very well make a mistake and cause your racer to fall off his bike or even worse, stay on the bike but hit the ground wrong and spill out while skidding a few meters on the dirt. Not something you'll want to happen if you plan to keep face and win the race (rhyming not intentional, I assure you). As tough as the game is, losing those few seconds is definitely not something that you can sacrifice. Still, you do want to perform all those tricks, as they improve your score significantly. The controls of the game are fairly simply though. You move around with the arrow keys, which control your direction and how fast you're going. With all of the sharp turns present in the game, you'll need to keep a close eye on your speed and your driving, as it's very easy to accidentally miss a turn and careen straight into a barrier, costing your your lead. That's not to mention all of the ramps. As the ramps are not the width of the entire track, it's possible to miss them. These ramps are also often placed right after turns, so you have to be really concentrating if you want to make the turns at the highest speed possible while still hitting the ramps dead-on in order to perform the best stunts. It's worth mentioning that as tricky as these tracks may be, they're part of the entire appeal of the game. It's certainly not a game for experts, but it's not a game that pulls its punches either. The tracks start off challenging and only get harder from there. You'll be able to do some really great stunts with them though, as the tracks all provide you with ample opportunity to perform all sorts of death-defying tricks that look really, really cool. So if you're looking for some great off-road racing excitement, then Baja Motocross is the game for you!
