Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel's prime minister, has confirm his plan to take total control of the Gaza Strip. The announcement was made during an interview with Netanyahu on Fox News's Bill Hemmer show. The Israeli security cabinet is expected to approve on Thursday a plan for its military to take control of more territory in Gaza, potentially displacing nearly a million Palestinians. The plan proposed by Binyamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, focuses initially on Gaza City and central areas before expanding southward in the shattered territory. The Israeli military has already put parts of Gaza City and Khan Younis under new enforced displacement orders. The cabinet is due to start meeting at 6pm local time (4pm BST). There was a three-hour meeting earlier this week with the head of the military, Eyal Zamir, who was reported to have pushed back against proposals to expand the campaign, arguing that doing so would come at “a high cost and require significant military deployment”. The government has said its aim is to destroy the last remnants of the terrorist group Hamas and free the remaining hostages taken in the attack of October 7, 2023, according to The Times of Israel. Fifty hostages remain in the territory and at least 20 are believed still to be alive.
