Currently, Patch Policy notifications will notify users for each and every app patch as they become available. This can quickly become overwhelming on days when a large number of patches have been deployed — say after "Patch Tuesday." We also need to ensure our users are aware of new patches and give them the opportunity to install those patches themselves before the Patch Policy install deadline passes in order to avoid data loss if/when apps are force-quit for the patches to be automatically installed. We have built a single, customizable notification to send our users when their computers are in scope of patches distributed through Self Service. If they choose to "update now," we take them directly to the Notifications tab in Self Service where they can run the updates. If they decline, we advise that we'll remind them every day until all their apps are updated — whether by the user or automatically by Jamf Pro after the Patch Policy install deadline has passed. In this session, I'll go over our Jamf Helper script which alerts users to the availability of new patches, configuration of the Computer Policy which runs our script, configuration of the Smart Computer Group which our Computer Policy will be scoped to and configuration of our Patch Policies in Patch Management. Let's be just annoying enough to encourage our users to keep their software up to date, but not so annoying that they start ignoring our communications!
