I went to the back of the room to see how well the bass would pick up from both of these speakers. I would say the Studio 5 has a cleaner bass and doesnt distort on volumes above 60 percent. This is due to the massive passive radiator built into it vs the little 3 inch port on the soundsticks 3. Now I will say the soundsticks 3 seem to have a more balanced sound, the treble is noticeably better with the highs being more crisp and more satisfying to the ears. Bass wise, it seemed to have louder bass in general due to the 6 inch subwoofer. The bass on the soundsticks 3 sounded more boomy and more natural but tended to distort on high volume due to no damping material in the subwoofer due to it being plastic. The Onxy 5 is a mono speaker but that 5 inch woofer gives it a very good bass response sounding like a smaller subwoofer. The bass seemed cleaner on the Onyx studio 5 due to it's passive radiator, the mids are more noticeable on the 5 as well making it sound like a big speaker with a subwoofer. Imo I prefer the sound of the soundsticks, they have stereo sound and have more treble and cleaner sound in general due to having 4 drivers in each speaker allow you to hear more detail in your music or movie. The onyx 5 did put up a good comparison compared to the soundsticks. In some ways the 5 sounds better like when bass gets below 50 hz, the studio 5 has that bass boost that makes it sound like a subwoofer and it's really cool to have.
