Maithilisharan Gupta was born on 3 August 1886 in Chirgaon, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Born in an elite Vaish family, Maithilisharan Gupta's father's name was 'Seth Ramcharan' and mother's name was 'Kashibai'. Father Ramcharan was a staunch famous Ram devotee.
