During the Committee of Supply debate for Health ministry, the Workers' Party MP He Ting Ru called for clearer timelines to regulate therapists and counsellors, saying stronger oversight is needed to protect clients and uphold professional standards in Singapore’s growing mental health sector. She also urged the Government to address barriers to entry for aspiring professionals, including high supervision and practicum costs, and suggested allowing the use of SkillsFuture credits. Responding, Senior Minister of State for Health Koh Poh Koon said the Government will register five higher-risk psychology sub-disciplines, including clinical and counselling psychology, with details to be announced by early 2027. He added that initiatives under the National Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy are expanding community services, youth support and mental health outreach nationwide.
