in this lesson, we are going to go over the assessment criteria for the writing section of TOEFL 2026. Here is the checklist: 1️⃣ Did I fully answer the task? I responded directly to all parts of the prompt. I did not go off-topic or add irrelevant ideas. 2️⃣ Is my main idea clear from the beginning? My purpose/opinion is easy to understand. The reader doesn’t have to guess what I mean. 3️⃣ Did I develop my ideas with reasons or examples? I explained why or how, not just what. My response is not too short or superficial. 4️⃣ Is my writing well organized? Ideas follow a logical order. I used clear paragraphing (or logical separation of ideas). 5️⃣ Did I use appropriate tone and register? Polite and professional for emails. Academic and neutral for discussion tasks. No slang or overly informal language. 6️⃣ Did I use a variety of sentence structures? Not all sentences are short or simple. I used some complex or compound sentences correctly. 7️⃣ Is my vocabulary accurate and varied? I avoided repeating the same words. Word choice fits the topic and context. 8️⃣ Are grammar errors minimal? Errors do not confuse the meaning. Verb tenses, articles, and word forms are mostly correct. 9️⃣ Is my writing easy to understand overall? A reader can understand my ideas without effort. Errors do not interfere with communication. 🔟 Did I review and correct my response? I checked for obvious spelling or grammar mistakes. I used the last seconds to improve clarity.
