ly . I had been in the seat for over 6 and a half hours so it was my turn to take a break. There are always two pilots in control seats at all times- never just one. So how do we decide who rests when etc? Normally it’s simply by agreement between the crew. Sometimes one of your colleagues will request to take the first rest or work first etc. So if there’s four crew for example, with a flight time of 12 hours say, I take one hour off for getting back in seat before landing and then take 30 minutes for takeoff to top of climb. That leaves 10 hours 30 minutes to split the rest period. So each pair of the four crew will have 5hours 15 minutes to rest before crew change. What do we do during our crew rest? Read, watch movies on the laptop/IPad, listen to music with noise cancelling headsets, sleep, lie down on bed, sit on the seats and recline it to relax etc. You get the gist.
