This Smitty sled will easily support 300+ pounds of evenly distributed gear or cargo. I’ve tested the loaded sled on ice, in slush, powder and hard-packed snow and it pulls easily. Though turning the fully-loaded sled in slush and powder snow takes some effort, crossing the tow ropes and running the tow ropes through the front eye bolts lifts the ski tips to make turning much easier. The deck of this sled measures 62”x31” and was constructed using repurposed plastic palettes, modified ladder stabilizers and 185cm downhill skis. 1”x3” and 2”x3” wooden struts were coated with polyester resin and sanded prior to painting with Rustoleum semi-gloss black spray paint. 1-1/4”x36” aluminum tubes were purchased at Home Depot. 1-1/8” wooden dowels were purchased at Canadian Tire. The ski mounts were designed in Tinkercad and printed on an Ender 5Plus printer using Polymaker ASA filament.
