Soldiers from the Sudanese army celebrated and prostrated as they retook the presidential palace and other key areas in central Khartoum from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on Friday. It comes amid a wave of territorial gains as Sudan's army closes in on the country's capital. The shifting tide could potentially end nearly two years of civil war that has created what is widely considered the world's worst humanitarian crisis in Sudan. As the country grapples with conditions of famine, both the Sudanese army and the RSF have been held responsible for war crimes, with the RSF also accused of genocide by the US.
