Mihir Patel is a Trustee of the India Overseas Trust, which governs the British Ugandan Asians at 50 projects. Here he offers a broad context of the relevance of the projects and the urgency to capture the testimonies before it is too late. Ugandan Diaries is an add-on series to the three-part Ugandan Journeys, a set of video programmes to document the stories of British volunteers who aided the Asian migrants forced to leave Uganda by Idi Amin in 1972/3. The programmes further include testimonies from residents and people who worked in the camps. The Ugandan Diaries offer a wider perspective of the Ugandan expulsion from the specific camp testimonies of the Ugandan Journeys. This oral history project - British Ugandan Asians at 50 (BUA50.ORG) - is the production of the India Overseas Trust with the support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund. It is an integral part of British volunteering heritage and an extraordinary historical episode that helped shape modern Britain's diversity.
