"A Midsummer Night's Dream" is about Theseus, the Duke of Athens, whom is preparing for his marriage to Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons. He commissions Philostrate to find amusements for the occasion. Egeus, an Athenian nobleman, arrives at Theseus's court with his daughter, Hermia, and two young men, Demetrius and Lysander. Egeus wishes Hermia marry Demetrius, but Hermia is in love with Lysander. Egeus asks for the full penalty of law if she flouts her father's will. Theseus gives Hermia until his wedding to consider her options. Despite her father's warnings, Hermia and Lysander plan to escape Athens and marry in Lysander's aunt's house. Helena, once engaged to Demetrius, tells Demetrius of their plan. Demetrius stalks into the woods, followed by Helena. In the woods, two groups of characters, Oberon and Titania, are at odds over a young Indian prince. Oberon sends Puck to spread the love potion on Titania's eyelids, and Lysander falls in love with Helena.
