On March 10, 1966, in the A Shau Valley, Vietnam, Major Bernard F. Fisher risked his life to rescue a fellow pilot, Maj. “Jump” Myers, by landing his A-1 Skyraider on a battle-torn airstrip under intense enemy fire. Hit by 19 bullets, he taxied through debris, picked up Myers, and took off—earning the first Medal of Honor awarded to an Air Force member in the Vietnam War. This original song honors his profound courage, brotherhood, and service in the highest traditions of the U.S. Air Force. Designed during World War II by legendary engineer Ed Heinemann, it entered service in 1946—just too late for WWII combat—but proved indispensable in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Nicknamed the “Spad” (after the WWI fighter) or “Sandy” (for its rescue escort role), it was a low-and-slow anachronism in the jet era, yet no aircraft matched it for close air support (CAS). --------------------------- #guitar #acoustic #countrymusic #militarytribute #medalofhonor #vietnamwar #airforce #hero #patriot #originalsong #ballad
